Guest House and Self Catering Category.

Midweek Offer.
THREE nights for the price of TWO
Staying in Superior rooms, Sunday to Thursday only - subject to availablity (not available in High Season periods)

Built as two private houses in the middle of the 19th Century, and backing on to one of the prettiest squares in York, the two listed buildings have been lovingly restored to retain the ambience of a private home and provide peaceful, elegant rooms where the pressures of the day can be eased away.

When you arrive, you ring the front door bell, sign in, and are handed your bedroom and front door key. After that the house is yours to come and go as you please.

At Holmwood House, all the rooms are different, both in decoration and size, and all have their own bathroom or shower room. (See Accommodation). There are many extra touches in addition to colour television, coffee and tea making facilities, radio-alarm clock, hairdryer and direct dial telephone.
We also offer family suites for up to six peopleand air conditioning in some rooms.

Sitting Room, 7K

On the ground floor we have a comfortable sitting room in which to relax and browse amongst the books and information about
York and the surrounding areas.
NO SMOKING
By popular demand the hotel as a whole is non-smoking. We now have a Gold Award for offering a smoke free environment.
STAIRS
For those who find stairs difficult we have three rooms at ground level and one at garden level.

BREAKFAST

Breakfast is our speciality: we offer a choice of fruit juices,
grapefruit segments and prunes, cereals, including our
special muesli (full of fruit and nuts); followed by a wide selection, including full English breakfast, Craster kippers, fruit platter, vegetarian breakfast, hot croissants and toast. We do our best to meet special needs - vegan, celiac, diabetes etc - let us know your requirements.
To help your digestion we will soothe you with gentle classical music.

EVENINGS
York has a variety of night life: two fine theatres, frequent classical and popular concerts as well as good restaurants and country pubs, which will ensure a lasting memory of the city.

DINING OUT
We invite you to enjoy the wide range of restaurants in the unique ambience of York city centre. Since eating out can be so good we do not offer evening meals ourselves, but we will happily advise you on places to eat suit all tastes! For those special occasions we offer Gourmet Breaks in conjunction with some of York's top independant restaurants - see our GOURMET link.

VISITING THE REGION
Holmwood House makes an ideal base for touring in the whole area around York and the north of England. Hadrian's Wall and even Edinburgh can be visited on a day trip! We are within very easy travelling distance of historic and heritage sites such as Castle Howard, Fountains Abbey, Rievaulx Abbey, Harewood House, Bylands Abbey, James Herriot country and the sweeping Yorkshire Dales, the North Yorkshire Moors and Hutton-le-Hole, Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay. We will be pleased to advise you on where to go and what to see during your stay and can also arrange trips and walks led by local guides. Please ask about our Leisure Breaks.

SPORTS
WALKING: York is a wonderful place to walk - around the City walls and exploring the little snickelways and fascinating streets in the old city, along the river and out into the country side.
The hotel makes an ideal base from which to travel to walk in the North Yorkshire moors and dales. CYCLING : York is a 'cycling aware' city. There are extensive scenic CYCLE WAYS in and around York. We are on Route 65 and often take the cycle ways ourselves out to Benningborough Hall, and Newton on Ouse or to Acaster Malbis to our favourite river pubs.
HORSE RACING : The famous KNAVESMIRE race course, is close to Holmwood House.
GOLF : there are several golf courses near by.
